Our modern children’s ward is located on the second floor of the Timor Street block at Warrnambool Hospital. We have 12 beds in a combination of single and shared rooms, staffed 24 hours a day by our expert paediatric nurses.
Your child will be seen every day by the paediatric doctors on their ward round, which usually happens between 0800hrs and 1100hrs each day. There is a paediatric doctor on site each day until 2200hrs, and then after that the on-call paediatrician can be called in from home for any emergencies.
Please try and be present on the ward during the morning so that we can discuss your child’s care with you and answer any questions directly.
The doctors and nurses on the ward are supported by specialist speech pathologists, dieticians, occupational therapists, Aboriginal liaison workers, social workers and physiotherapists.
Children looked after by the surgical and mental health teams also come to our ward.
Most children come to our ward through the emergency department, but if possible please consider bringing:
One parent is permitted to stay overnight with their child and beds / bedding / washing facilities are provided. Breastfeeding mothers will also be given meals from the hospital kitchen.
